About OpenGlyph

Last updated 25 June 2026 · OpenGlyph Editorial

OpenGlyph.org is an open, non-profit community for everyone who loves glyphs, fonts, emoji and kaomoji. We are not a one-off “fancy text generator” — we are a shared, openly-licensed library and a place where enthusiasts curate and contribute characters, symbol sets, ASCII art and open fonts.

Our mission

Keep the world’s everyday glyphs open, accurate and free to use. Most kaomoji and symbol collections online are cluttered, unverified, or wrapped in ads. We do the opposite: a calm, well-organised, openly-licensed library where every entry is tested to render correctly and credited to its source.

What you’ll find

OpenGlyph is organised into five open libraries, plus education on how characters actually work:

  • Kaomoji — Japanese emoticons sorted by emotion and animal, copy-on-tap.
  • Emoji meanings & combos — what each emoji means and how it renders per platform.
  • Glyphs & symbols — hearts, arrows, aesthetic marks and historic scripts, with Unicode notes.
  • ASCII art — a community gallery and maker tools.
  • Open fonts — a directory of typefaces with clear SIL OFL / Creative Commons licensing.

How it works

Browse a library, tap any character to copy it, and — if you’ve made something good — submit it. Maintainers review every contribution for originality and clean rendering, credit you, and share it under an open license.

Who runs OpenGlyph

Founded in 2026, OpenGlyph is maintained by its editorial team and a wider community of contributors. Articles are bylined “OpenGlyph Editorial” or “OpenGlyph Community,” and user submissions are credited to their contributor with consent. We never invent author names or credentials — see how we curate & verify.

Built on open standards

Every glyph here is a real character defined by the Unicode Consortium. Fonts follow the SIL Open Font License; community text is shared under Creative Commons. We stay fully independent: emoji artwork and platform names are trademarks of their owners (non-affiliation).

Join the community

OpenGlyph grows because people contribute. Read how to contribute, check the community guidelines, and add your favourite kaomoji or symbol set to OpenGlyph.org.
